FR Welding Shirts FAQs

What is the difference between a standard cotton shirt and an FR welding shirt?
While heavy starch on standard cotton offers some resistance, it is not reliable. A dedicated FR welding shirt is chemically treated or manufactured with fibers that self-extinguish when exposed to flame, preventing the material from continuing to burn and causing severe injury.
Can I machine wash my Arccaptain FR shirt?
Yes. Our shirts are designed to be machine washable. However, to prolong the life of the FR treatment, avoid using bleach or fabric softeners (which can coat the fibers in flammable residue). Wash in warm water and tumble dry low.
Is this shirt suitable for stick welding?
For light stick welding or tacking, yes. However, for heavy overhead structural welding with significant spatter, we recommend wearing your FR shirt as a comfortable base layer underneath a full leather welding jacket or cape sleeves.
Does the shirt shrink after washing?
Our fabric is pre-shrunk to ensure a consistent fit. However, as with all 100% cotton garments, slight tightening may occur if dried on high heat. We recommend following the care label instructions for the best results.
