FAQs

On 240V, it delivers a clean cut up to 14mm (9/16") and a maximum severance cut up to 22mm (7/8") on conductive metals. On 110V, cutting capacity is reduced — clean cut drops to approximately 8mm (5/16"). For cutting steel thicker than 1/2", always use a 240V outlet to get full power and the cleanest edge quality.

The CUT55 Prolux cuts any electrically conductive metal, including carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, copper, galvanized steel, and cast iron. It cannot cut non-conductive materials such as wood, plastic, or stone.

Yes. The non-contact Pilot Arc technology establishes a stable arc before touching the workpiece, allowing you to start cutting directly on rusty, painted, coated, or dirty surfaces without grinding or cleaning first. The built-in Rust Removal mode further stabilizes arc performance on heavily oxidized metal.

The CUT55 Prolux requires a minimum of 60 PSI with at least 4–5 CFM of clean, dry air. A compressor with a 20-gallon or larger tank running at 90 PSI is recommended for sustained cutting sessions. Always use the included air compressor filter — oil or moisture in the air line will damage the torch nozzle and shorten consumable life significantly.

Yes. The CUT55 Prolux is dual voltage and includes a 240V-to-120V power adapter. On 110V it runs on a standard 20-amp circuit. However, maximum cutting capacity is reduced on 110V. For cutting steel thicker than 3/8" or for production work, a dedicated 240V outlet (such as a dryer or welder outlet) will give you full 55A output and noticeably better results.

The CUT55 Prolux uses AG60 torch consumables — electrodes, nozzles, swirl rings, and shields. These are not compatible with IPT60 consumables used by the CUT55 MP and CUT55 NON-HF models, so do not mix them. Replacement AG60 consumables are available directly at [link to AG60 consumables page]. We recommend keeping a spare set on hand, as consumables wear faster when cutting thick or heavily coated metal.

Yes. The built-in Mesh Cutting mode is specifically designed for cutting perforated or expanded metal. In standard mode, the arc extinguishes every time it crosses a gap in the mesh, causing repeated restarts and faster consumable wear. Mesh mode keeps the pilot arc active across gaps, so cutting is continuous, efficient, and easier on your tips and electrodes.

PA (Pilot Arc Delay) sets how long the pilot arc stays active before the main cutting arc transfers to the workpiece — adjustable from 2 to 10 seconds. Use a longer PA setting on rusty, painted, or multi-layer materials to let the arc burn through surface contamination before full cutting begins. PT (Post-Arc Time) is the post-flow cooling period after you release the trigger — the machine continues blowing air to cool the nozzle and electrode. Setting PT to 1–3 seconds meaningfully extends consumable life and prevents nozzle tip burnback.

The CUT55 Prolux is built for home metal shop hobbyists, auto body and restoration shops, metal artists and fabricators, small and mid-size repair facilities, and farm and ranch maintenance work. It's particularly well suited for anyone who needs clean, reliable cuts on a variety of metals without the setup complexity of industrial-grade equipment — and for environments with sensitive electronics nearby, where the non-HF design eliminates radio-frequency interference concerns.
