20V Brushless Cordless Impact Wrench —
885 ft-lb, 1/2 in Drive
Rusted lug nuts, seized suspension bolts, overtightened axle hardware — the fasteners that stop a job cold are exactly what this impact wrench was built for. At 885 ft-lb of breakaway (nut-busting) torque, it handles the stuck and corroded bolts that a breaker bar can't touch and a lesser impact wrench gives up on. Three selectable forward torque modes let you dial it back when you're working near sensitive components, and a reverse auto-stop mode prevents over-loosening so fasteners don't spin completely free and drop.
The brushless motor runs cooler and lasts longer than a brushed equivalent under repeated heavy use. At just 4 lbs, it's compact enough to reach inside engine bays, underneath vehicles, and into the tight spaces where most of the hardest work actually happens. The 4.0Ah Makita-compatible battery delivers 60–70 minutes of runtime per charge and can be swapped with any Makita-platform battery you already own.
4-Mode Torque Control
885 ft-lb When You Need It — Dialed Back When You Don't
Maximum torque is only useful if you can also control it. Full 885 ft-lb on a 10mm fender liner bolt strips the threads in under a second. This wrench gives you four distinct operating modes so you match the torque to the fastener — not the other way around.
Small fasteners, interior trim bolts, engine bay hardware, aluminum components. Use when over-torquing is a real risk.
Brake caliper bolts, exhaust manifold studs, wheel bearing hardware. General mechanical work on standard passenger vehicles.
Lug nuts, axle nuts, suspension bolts on trucks and SUVs. Heavy-duty fasteners on trailers, equipment, and machinery.
Auto-stop prevents over-loosening. Full 885 ft-lb for seized, rusted, or overtightened fasteners. The mode that handles what everything else can't.
Brushless Motor Advantage
Why Brushless Matters on a High-Torque Tool
Not all impact wrenches are brushless — and the difference shows under repeated heavy use, not on the first few bolts. Here's what the brushless motor actually changes in real-world use.
Brushed motors generate significant friction heat through physical brush-to-commutator contact. Brushless motors eliminate that contact entirely — the motor runs electronically. When you're removing 20 lug nuts in a row or working through a seized suspension in cold weather, the brushless motor maintains consistent performance where a brushed motor would overheat and throttle back.
Brushes are consumable parts — they wear down and eventually fail, requiring replacement. Brushless motors have no consumable contact components, so there's nothing wearing out during use. The motor maintains its performance characteristics through the tool's life rather than degrading gradually as brushes wear.
Brushless motors convert more battery energy into mechanical torque and less into heat. That efficiency translates directly to longer runtime per charge — which is exactly why this tool gets 60–70 minutes from a 4.0Ah battery rather than the 30–40 minutes a comparable brushed tool would deliver.
Brushless motors are physically smaller for the same torque output. That's a direct contributor to the 4 lb weight and compact head profile that lets this wrench fit under vehicles, into wheel wells, and through the narrow clearances of a crowded engine bay where a bulkier brushed impact wrench won't fit.
Battery System
4.0Ah Makita-Compatible — Use What You Already Have
Runtime Per Charge
A 4.0Ah battery is the minimum you want for high-torque impact work. Higher-Ah batteries provide more sustained power output under load — important when you're using full-torque mode repeatedly on seized fasteners rather than just running nuts down lightly. The 4.0Ah pack here delivers consistent performance through a full shift of shop or field work without needing a mid-job swap on most applications.
Existing Makita Battery Stock
The Makita-style battery interface is the widest-distributed cordless battery platform in the professional trades. If you already own Makita 18V / 20V batteries, they slide directly onto this tool — no adapter, no extra purchase. Two batteries ship with the kit, but replacing or adding capacity means buying any compatible 18V / 20V Makita-platform battery rather than a proprietary pack that only works with one brand's tool line.
Note on 20V vs 18V: 20V (peak) and 18V (nominal) refer to the same battery cells measured at different points. 20V is the voltage immediately off the charger; 18V is the operating voltage under load. Both numbers refer to the same battery platform. Makita labels their batteries 18V; tools from other brands on the same platform may say 20V. They're cross-compatible.
Where It Gets Used
Built for Automotive, Shop, and Field Work
885 ft-lb of breakaway torque covers the entire range of automotive fasteners plus the heavy hardware found on trailers, farm equipment, and industrial machinery. Here's where this wrench earns its keep.
Standard lug nuts torque to 80–100 ft-lb from the factory. Shops often overtighten to 120–150 ft-lb with air guns. Even a rusted or overtightened lug nut on a full-size truck comes off at well under 300 ft-lb — the 885 ft-lb breakaway mode handles it in under a second. Four wheels done in under 5 minutes.
Axle nuts, strut bolts, and control arm hardware frequently require 150–250 ft-lb of removal torque — more if they've been in service for years without removal. The high forward mode (738 ft-lb) and nut-busting reverse (885 ft-lb) handle these without a breaker bar assist or penetrating oil waiting time in most cases.
Mode 1 (369 ft-lb) keeps you from stripping smaller engine bolts. Use it on oil drain plugs, valve cover bolts, intake manifold hardware, and exhaust manifold studs where over-torquing causes more problems than the seized fastener you started with.
Trailer hitch bolts, fifth wheel hardware, and agricultural equipment fasteners are often left to weather and corrosion for years between servicing. The full 885 ft-lb reverse mode is exactly what you need when the box wrench hasn't moved in three seasons.
Frame assembly, fixture work, and structural steel bolting. Fast forward torque for running down hardware on jig setups and structural connections, reverse for breaking down at the end of a project or adjusting clamping fixtures.
No air compressor, no extension cord, no outlet needed. Field repairs on equipment, vehicles, or machinery in locations without shore power are where cordless at this torque level is genuinely irreplaceable. The 60–70 minute runtime covers most field service calls on a single charge.
What's in the Box
Everything You Need to Start Working
Two batteries, a charger, a 6-piece socket set, and a built-in LED work light — the kit is complete out of the box. No separate battery purchase, no hunting for sockets that fit the 1/2 in drive.
20V brushless, 1/2 in square drive, 4 lbs. Built-in LED work light that illuminates the fastener when you're working in low-light spaces.
Makita-compatible 20V 4.0Ah lithium-ion batteries. Two included so one charges while you work. 60–70 min runtime each.
Charges the 4.0Ah batteries. Compatible with the full Makita-platform battery range so the charger works on your existing batteries as well.
Six impact-rated sockets included — covers the most common automotive and shop fastener sizes. Supports up to 1.57 in with compatible sockets.
Built into the tool head. Activates to illuminate the work area when you're under a vehicle or inside a tight space where ambient light doesn't reach.
