Do I need gas for stainless steel flux core wire?

No, you do not. This wire (E308LFC-O) is "self-shielded," meaning the flux inside the wire creates a gas shield as it burns. This makes it perfect for outdoor use or for welders who don't own a gas cylinder.

What polarity do I use for this wire?

You should use DCEN (Direct Current Electrode Negative), often called "straight polarity." This connects the torch to the negative terminal and the ground clamp to the positive. This prevents the wire from melting too fast and ensures good penetration.

Can I weld 304 stainless with this wire?

Yes. This wire is typically an E308L grade, which is specifically designed to weld 304 and 308 stainless steels. It contains slightly more chromium and nickel to ensure the weld is as corrosion-resistant as the base metal.

Is there a lot of spatter?

Flux core welding generally produces more spatter than gas MIG welding. However, ArcCaptain's stainless flux core wire is formulated to minimize this, offering a smoother arc and cleaner bead than many economy brands. Anti-spatter spray can also help keep cleanup easy.

Can I use this on regular steel?
